Clingman’s Dome

Clingman’s Dome

Enjoy the View from Clingman’s Dome

Clingman’s Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, coming in at 6,643 feet. Enjoy the view from the observation tower—you’ll get a full 360 degree view of the forestry, including high elevation spruce-fir, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. A dramatic sweeping ramp leads to the top of the tower. From the top, you’ll be able to see several mountain peaks, from Raven Den to Little Fodderstack, and as many as seven states.

Be sure to dress warmly, even during summer, since weather at this altitude can dip 20 degrees lower than surrounding areas. Several trails, including the Appalachian Trail, cross the Dome. There is a visitor center with restrooms and a parking area, but be prepared for a steep walk to the top. Bikes and pets are not allowed at the top, but there’s a bike rack at the parking lot. The trail to the top is too steep for wheelchairs.
