It takes a lot to earn the title of “Best Sandwich Shop in Townsend, TN.” Black Bear Café has done just that.

From tourists, to local residents and media, The Black Bear Café has won over the hearts (and mouths) of everyone that’s graced its presence. Located in the heart of Townsend, on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, the café has earned the reputation from one patron as “not a fancy place, just good food at a good price.” The Black Bear Café has embraced that mantra since it opened its doors in 2011.

The café itself began as the Charcoal House in 1963 and was most recently a local pizza restaurant. The bear portraits that line the walls inside the café serve as a symbol of the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain National Park that surrounds the building. The décor aptly represents the southern, outdoorsy vibe that the café stands for. Serving everything from chicken salad to fried pies, this local favorite completely embraces the Smoky Mountain culture and continues to be a fan favorite with locals and visitors alike.
