Biking is a great recreational workout, especially during the summer months when it’s nice to get outside. But biking in the Smoky Mountains takes the experience to a whole other level!

Whizzing past the scenery of Cades Cove in Townsend makes for an unforgettable ride. The Townsend 9 mile loop bicycle path is a scenic and historic route along pathways trod by settlers and Native Americans for thousands of years. Portions of the route run along the river and it’s also easily accessible to stop off at restaurants, shops and motels. Parking is available at both ends of the bike trail located on US 321 in Townsend.

While in the area, be sure to stop by the Townsend Visitors Center to pick up your copy of the “Shadows of the Past” brochure to learn more about the historical bike trail, or download a copy here: Shadows of the Past .
