Townsend Offers Wintertime Getaway

Yet, you’re only about 30 minutes away from the outlet and shopping malls and some of the best entertainment in the southeast." Townsend is especially popular among couples during the winter who are looking for a romantic vacation. There are more than 300 cabins, bed and breakfasts, and cottages in the area, tucked away in coves, in the woods and on mountain tops. There are also several hotels and motels. Townsend is one of three main entrances to the national park and the best route to Cades Cove, the park’s most famous spot. The beauty of the area has drawn visitors since the early 1800s, first by stagecoach and train and later by roads often built on the railroad beds.
